Family activity plan

Did you know the recommended amount of daily screen time for children under two years old is zero hours? For anyone over two years, including adults, no more than two hours per day is the recommendation.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children under age 18 get at least one hour of unstructured outdoor time each day.

Sadly, children in Minnesota spend an average of 8 to 10 hours each day in front of electronic screens and about 10 minutes a day outdoors. The current generation of children is expected to have a lower life expectancy than their parents.

To help kids make wise media choices, parents should develop a Family Media Use Plan for everyone in their family.

The American Academy of Pediatrics has developed a rigorous and thorough media & children communication toolkit, Project GO has adapted and simplified this kit into our one page Family Media plan (to the right).

We encourage you to sit down as a family and develop your own plan.  Parents must model the behaviors they expect to see from their children: even babies can learn bad behaviors from watching mom and dad stare at a screen.
